Manas Vyas

Ph.D. Student, Mechanical Engineering

Manas graduated from the LNM Institute of Information Technology with a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering as Valedictorian in 2022. During his undergraduate years, he served as the Chairperson of the ASME Student Section and held the streak for winning the ASME Elevator pitch competition three times. He also Captained the University's ASME HPVC team, securing a 5th global ranking in 2020.

Driven by a keen interest in Additive Manufacturing, Manas interned with India's first construction 3D printing startup in 2021. His senior design project focused on developing a Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing Work Cell using a Robotic Arm for his university. In early 2022, Manas had the opportunity to intern at FEV (Forschungsgesellschaft für Energietechnik und Verbrennungsmotoren), where he designed vehicle interiors for a concept vehicle by applying Design for Additive Manufacturing (DfAM) principles.

In August 2022, he started his Doctoral degree at Virginia Tech in the DREAMS Lab, where he conducts research on the Direct Ink Write process. His primary focus involves investigating new processes, material formulations and constructing new hardware and setups for Additively Manufactured Functionally Graded Materials, Highly Loaded Filler inks (Including Metals and Ceramics), and Low-Melting alloys for electronic applications.

Alongside his research, Manas enjoys singing, origami, and 3D printing small Pokémon figurines.
